Happy Halloween

Posted by – October 31, 2009

Wind is blowing like crazy … must be a steady 20 mph with some really strong gusts that have been rattling the house.  Motion sensor lights are going crazy!!

Dave & I got our season passes so we’re ready for the snow and regular test sessions & meetings on the hill.  Look for us at Mansfield.

Still waiting for the final parts from our injection molder, (the only parts we don’t make ourselves).  Frstrating when someone else has contgrol over your destiny.  But  they need to be right.

Made some other good break-throughs on fabrication etc.  Always an education.  More work this weekend.

Don;’t eat too much candy or imbibe too much.

Long time, no write. No excuse.

Well, okay, maybe a couple of little (and lame) excuses.

Kinda busy last week making more parts and trying to work the bugs out of machines, etc.  I gotta tell ya, it’s a challenge starting something from the ground up.  Most of the time the challenge is good.  But, occasionally it can be a real bear!  Just ask Dave.  But, we both are becoming real proponents of the saying that “Success makes you happy, but failure makes you learn,” or something like that.

Weather warmed up a bit, but I did see plenty of snow on the trails at Killington today.  No, I can’t see it from the shop.  I was driving down Route 89 on my way to Nantucket.

On the fast ferry right now for a quick over and back trip to close up the house.

Take care.

Getting ready for winter and loving it

Posted by – October 21, 2009

Close pool, check. Patio furniture stored away, check. Winter tires inflated and ready to be bolted on when it snows, check. Playing hockey, check. Curling starts Saturday, check. Making more Dodge Ski Boots parts, check. Grass cut for last time, check. It’s getting closer. Whoo hoo.

I love Vermont in October

Posted by – October 17, 2009

Heavy frost each morning but it gets warm and sunny in the afternoon.

Mountains are looking really good, especially with the contrast of snow up high and the foliage at lower elevations, with green grass down really low.

Good weather to make Dodge Ski Boots, too. Dave & I made quite a few components in the last few days and are looking forward to having the finished 26.5s this week. Whoo hoo!

Yesterday's view of Mt. Mansfield from the shop. Looking good.

Enjoy the Brazil F1 race this weekend!

Yesterday was the 65th anniversary of the crash of the Army Air Corps B-24 on Camel's Hump.

Yes, there is snow on the Green Mountains

Clouds have cleared so you can see Mansfield,k Bolton, Camel’s Hump, Mount Ellen and Lincoln peak.  And it looks cold!

3″ of snow at the stake, though it looks like more.  (This is a good link to see the snowfall on Mansfield. http://www.uvm.edu/skivt-l/?Page=depths.php)

Dave & I made quite a few boot parts yesterday and they are looking good.  More today.  If you wear a 26.5, you should plan on getting in touch with PJ at RaceStockSports to set up a time for a fitting.  We should have some to him within a couple of weeks.  If you wear a 27.5 or 25.5, get in touch with us to arrange for boots.

TTL.

Snow is on the mountains

Posted by – October 15, 2009

It is really looking like winter in the mountains. Snow (and a good amount of it) is everywhere above 2,000 feet.

It won’t be long before we are all strapping on the skis. (Yeah, I know, some people are already doing that and hiking. But, I haven’t done that for many years, and don’t plan to anytime soon.)

What do you think of the wind turbine on Bolton? In favor or against? What would you think if wind power was expanded to other peaks?

Get ready for a good weekend. Mount Philo Hillclimb is this weekend.
Best,
Bill

Snow on the mountains

Posted by – October 14, 2009

Good amount of snow on the mountains. Still lots of clouds, but trails are white at Bolton and Sugarbush North.

Even had some flurries at the shop while we were making boot parts.

Getting quite a few website hits.  Thanks folks.

And a good number of hits from Italy, Germany, France and  Finland!  Would seem like some people in the ski industry might be interested.

Expect to have the first 26.5s in RaceStockSports in a couple of weeks.

Take care.

Not only smells like snow, it looks like it!

Cold, rain, but probably snow at elevation …

Another typical October day in Northern Vermont.  Cold, wet and dreary.

But, spirits are high at Dodge Ski Boots.

Thanks to all who have had such positive comments on the new boot and site.  And thanks, too, to those who’ve offered gentle suggestions/criticisms on how we can make things better.

We’re hoping to have the first retail boots at RaceStock Sports and the first boots on racers’ feet in the next few weeks.

If you’re in Essex and want to stop in, let us know and we’ll see if we can accomodate you.

Frost on the pumpkin

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!

Politically incorrect but, Happy Columbus Day!

Walked down to get today’s paper with a good frost and 30 degrees.  Beautifully clear sky with some nice morning stars (and satellites).

Probably will need to turn on the heat in the shop unless we really make alot of boot parts and have the press and the other “secret” machines going.

Fall colors are spectacular!  Get out and enjoy them.

Countdown to boots is looking like 3 weeks.

Take care.

Columbus Day Weekend and it’s dreary in Vermont

The Dodge Ski Boot is ready for winter, but Mt. Mansfield isn't quite ready

The Dodge Ski Boot is ready for winter, but Mt. Mansfield isn't quite ready

Okay, so October isn’t supposed to be bathing suit season, but c’mon … it could at least be a little nicer for all the leaf peepers.

Rain stinks.  Gray sky stinks.  But, at least it makes it a little easier to be in the shop building boots.  And, that’s what we do, right?

Looks like the gang in Saas Fee is having decent weather.  Anxious to hear from them.

Cross fingers for some good early season snow.

Best,

Bill
