It better snow soon

Posted by – November 23, 2009

Dave is getting really antsy waiting for snow.  Just got back from a “hard” day of curling in Quebec yesterday afternoon, laid down for a NASCAR nap, and the phone rings.  It’s Dave in the shop working on our new plastic welder.  Drag my tired butt off the couch and out there with him for a while. Never a day off at Dodge Ski Boots!

John calls at about 8 PM from the hockey rink.  “Dad, can you take me to the Emergency Room to get some stitches.  I got hit by a puck in the ear.”  2 hours, 5 stitches and a few ‘I told you so’s'  later I finally get back and crawl into bed.

Never did get a nap.

Back at it today.

Will ski in a smaller sized boot

Posted by – November 20, 2009

Dave & I have been making lots of Dodge Ski Boot carbon fiber parts and, being anxious for winter, we’re trying on boots and researching/playing.

I intially thought I’d be skiing on a 275mm shell as I wear a size 10 1/2 shoe and my old, old boots are 28.5s.  But, using a lace-up race liner, I find I am far more comfortable in a 265 shell.  Good fit, good geometry for my foot, and the sole length is shorter.  Something to keep in mind for those of you used to skiing in a 27.5 or larger boot.

Also keep in mind that a good, custom footbed will definitely make it easier to be in a smaller boot.

Do get too wet in the rain today.

Great boot-making day yesterday

Posted by – November 19, 2009

Dave & I were flying.  Made lots of Dodge Ski Boot parts, especially for 255s.  Looking really good.  Also did some see-through boots for PJ to use with boot fitting.

Now if we get some snow, we can get out and use the boots.  Getting anxious.

John coming home for Thanksgiving break.  Hockey tomorrow morning and curling in Canada in the afternoon.  Did I mention I like things dealing with frozen water?

Take care.

You know winter is coming when the sun …

Posted by – November 17, 2009

rises way south of Mt. Mansfield.  In summer, viewing the sunrise from the shop shows the sun rising far north of Mansfield.  But in winter, it’s over Bolton.

Should be a busy day at Dodge Ski Boots today.  Making a bunch of carbon fiber parts for 265 boot shells.  Also working on a “see-through” shell so boot fitters can see inside the boot.

Nice visit from Duffy and Pat yesterday.

When will we see some snow in the East? I’m getting anxious.

`Til next time.

Warm. Rain. No snow on mountain.

Posted by – November 15, 2009

After a busy and productive day Friday building Dodge Ski Boots, took yesterday and did a little tour through Waterbury, Stowe and back.  Went to the mountain and got season pass.  No snow and raining hard.  Be tough to open next Saturday.

Stopped in to see PJ.  Busy in his shop.  Hope to have him fitting and selling lots of our boots soon.

Watching live timing for Levi. Ain’t modern technology great?

More boot work today.  Another visit to PJ’s to drop off some display boots.

Happy birthday celebration Pat.

Take care.

Heavy frost. Can snow be far behind?

Posted by – November 12, 2009

Good heavy frost this morning.  One of the newly-made Dodge Ski Boots escaped from the shop and I found it playing in the frosty grass, dreaming of skiing!

Dodge Ski Boot found playing in the frosty grass, waiting for snow.

Thank a veteran today

Please take a moment to say “Thanks” to a veteran today.

A gorgeous day in Vermont.  Cool, blue sky, lots of sun. Grass is gedtting brown and leaves are gone.  Still geese in the pond so it’s not quite winter.  But Dave says the snowmaking at Mansfield is sneaking down the mountain.

Another busy day yesterday making Dodge Ski Boots.  Trying to get everything ready for when some of the WC racers return from Europe and come to get boots.

We appreciate all the interest in the boot we’ve seen from inquiries directly to us and also some of the posts on other boards. Should be interesting to see what is said when the first boots are on race courses.

Time to make the boots.

Installed winter tires, so it got warm …

Posted by – November 9, 2009

It’s always the way, isn’t it?  Friday was cold with snow flurries, so I put winter tires on the cars Saturday.  Sunday was nearly 70 degrees.  T-shirt weather. And, another south wind blowing today. I probably jinxed ski season by already buying my season pass, too.

Seeing a lot of activity on one of the ski forums about Dodge Ski Boots. As with anything, some complimentary, some speculative, some sure to be less-than-wonderful.

Bottom line is this:  Will the boot help you race faster?  We think so.  And, based on inquiries we’re getting from WC racers, they think so too.

We’ll see.

Put some updated photos on the web page, courtesy of Ellen.

Winter is definitely coming

Posted by – November 7, 2009

There is snow in the mountains and snow in the air.  Looks cold on Mansfield, Camels Hump, Mt. Ellen, Bolton etc.

And, it really does smell like snow.  Won’t be surprised to see some flurries when Dave & I are working on boots this afternoon.

Have you seen that the Dodge Ski Boot is featured on PJ Dewey’s RaceStockSports. com
website?  We should have boots in the shop really soon.

Thought you might like to see how the mountains looked today.

Take care.

Mansfield,11-07-09-a

Mt. Mansfield is looking cold. And, you know more snow is on the way because the antennae are so visible. (Moisture in air magnifies things.)

MtEllen,11-07-09

Some good snow at top of Mt. Ellen (Sugarbush North or whatever it's called these days)

Bolton,11-07-09

Even Bolton is looking pretty wintery

Good boot-making day

Good day of playing hockey.  Saw the U-Mass Lowell team arrive at Gutterson and tried to put the hex on them.  Go Ben!  Hope you get some playing time.

Made a bunch of boot parts for 275s and 265s today.  Just need Dave to work the magic with the laser cutter.

Lots of snow flurries.  Looking like November.  Need to put the winter tires on a bunch of cars this weekend.  Break out the impact wrench.

Are you ready for snow?

Take care.
