Montreal Formula One race. Fir…
Montreal Formula One race. First we saw were the Historic Formula 1 cars. Love the McLaren driven by Alain Prost.
Goin’ Racin’
The DODGE Ski Boots crew is goin’ racin’ tomorrow.
We’re headed up to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix. Dave has been going to this race for many years with some long-time friends of his. And my daughter Ellen & I started up a father/daughter tradition of going about 4 years ago.
I can hardly wait. Nothing better than the sights and sounds of Formula One cars going at 18,000 RPMs. Except the incredibly intoxicating aroma of high-octane racing fuel and racing tires! If you’re a motorhead, you know what I mean. If you’re not, (that’s okay, too) then you will certainly think I am horrible for the planet. But I love racing.
So, no boots for a few days. Just racing and maybe some Tweets from the track.
Then on Monday it’s back to the DODGE Ski Boot factory and making new molds so we can get back to making the best carbon fiber ski boots we know how to make.
Can hardly wait for some more updates from the boys in Juvasshytta. Jon’s blog has been pretty entertaining. What about you, Leif?
à bientôt.

Sometimes your kids rebel
No matter how hard you try, sometimes your kids rebel and follow the beat of their own drummer. That happened here at DODGE Ski Boots today.
We’ve always said we wanted to make the best ski racing boot possible. And, with the number of boots already on racers’ feet and the increased number of racers asking for the boot, we think we’re onto something. So you’d think we’d done a pretty good job of teaching our “children” about the virtues of alpine ski racing.
But, one pair of 255s has taken it into its carbon fiber mind to be different. It doesn’t want to follow the path of its brethren and kick butt on injected courses. No, this pair wants to … freestyle. You read it right, this pair of boots is thinking rails, big air, and all kinds of unmentionables.
What can we do?
The only thing we can think of is to place our “baby” on some trusting feet and let `em boogie. Racer/freestyler extraordinaire Nelson Riley is coaching at the Woodward Camp at Copper Mountain this month and will be teaching the DODGE Ski Boots how to freestyle.
Nelson promised to keep us updated and we’ll do the same.
Oy!
Next thing you know, a pair will want to ski out-of-bounds and have lugged soles like Alpine Touring boots!
Teach your children well.

More boots headed to Mt. Hood

Two more pairs of DODGE Ski Boots escaped the barn today for a working vacation at Mt. Hood starting in mid-June.
These size 265 cousins were built with the “Warner” flex that is stiffer than what any normal person would use.
We also sent them out with our new liner so we can get some real world input.
Looking forward to seeing these newest members of the family kick some butt! Have fun Robby & Ryan. Another cousin was scheduled to go, but won’t be making the trip due to injury. Get well soon Tim!
We have another pair wanting to visit the dark side. Headed to a freestyle camp in Colorado with Nelson on Tuesday.
Gosh, I love what I do!
Talked to John today. 95 degrees and humid in Charleston. Makes the 79 degrees here feel positively polar.
Keep breathing.

Graduation at Dodge Ski Boots

It has been a busy couple of weeks as we’ve been getting boots built for racers headed to Norway and Mt. Hood.
Here is a photo of the cuffs lined up after assembly. The next step is to attach all the buckles and buckle catches, then mate them to the lowers and do the final assembly.
There is quite a bit of hand work involved, but it’s something that feels good when we have the boots all done and ready to go. How many people can say they have had a hand in every product that has gone out their door?
So when they are completed and our “babies” are ready to go out into the world, it’s an exciting occasion. Here they are all lined up for “graduation”. Some are going to Norway; some to Hood; and one pair even has plans for New Zealand!
Take care.
